DPI
Save as
PNG, JPG or WebP. You see its pixel size and the DPI it carries today.
300 for photo prints and anything held in the hand, 150 for posters. The print size updates as you switch.
Happy with the print size? Download the image tagged at your DPI, as a JPG or PNG. Too small? Open AI Upscale to add real pixels, then set the DPI here.
How to increase the DPI of an image
Print size in inches = pixels ÷ DPI.
| Pixels | @ 150 DPI | @ 300 DPI |
|---|---|---|
| 1080 × 1080 | 7.2 × 7.2 in | 3.6 × 3.6 in |
| 1920 × 1080 | 12.8 × 7.2 in | 6.4 × 3.6 in |
| 3000 × 2000 | 20.0 × 13.3 in | 10.0 × 6.7 in |
| 4096 × 4096 | 27.3 × 27.3 in | 13.7 × 13.7 in |
| 8192 × 8192 | 54.6 × 54.6 in | 27.3 × 27.3 in |
Not on its own. DPI only tells the printer how many pixels to place in each inch, so a higher DPI prints the same pixels smaller and sharper. Quality comes from pixel count: at 300 DPI, a 1200-pixel-wide image prints 4 inches wide.
Add pixels with AI Upscale, then set the DPI here so the print stays the size you want. 2K is 1 credit, 4K is 2, and 8K is 3. A failed run returns the credits.
Use 300 DPI for photos, art prints, cards and anything viewed up close. 150 DPI works for posters and banners seen from a distance. Screens only need 72–96.
Phones, screenshots and web exports often store 72 DPI, or no DPI at all. It is only a label — the pixels decide how large the image can print well.
The same format you uploaded, tagged at your DPI: a JPG stays a JPG and a PNG stays a PNG, with every pixel untouched. You can also pick JPG or PNG to convert. WebP has no standard DPI field, so it is saved as PNG unless you pick JPG.
Yes — unlimited, no sign-up, no watermark. Only AI Upscale uses credits, and you see the cost before it runs.
Changing the DPI happens in your browser, so the file never leaves your device. AI Upscale uploads the image to process it and saves the result to your private Library.
For photos and art prints, no — 300 DPI is the print-shop standard and the eye cannot use more at normal viewing distance. 600 DPI matters for fine line art, laser engraving and some textile screens.
PNG for graphics, text and patterns (lossless, edges stay exact); JPEG for photographs (smaller file, still fine at 300 DPI). This tool keeps your original format either way.
